So Silas broke his wrist! It happened at preschool (yes we have him in 2 days a week because he was writing on the walls and cutting everything from his hair to sheets and we wanted him to be busy doing something a little more productive). The school called me over and when I got there he was calm but wanted a hug. I sat with him for a few minutes then like any mother of boys would do said “you wanna go join the other kids for snack?” and of course he nodded and went inside. I told his teacher “thanks, he should be fine”. And went back home. When I picked him up later he was holding his wrist still. I thought ok maybe he really hurt it. I brought him to urgent care and got an X-ray. Doctor said everything looks ok. So we get home and I ask him to drag a trash can up to the house. He does. He starts jumping on the trampoline and playing with his brothers. Then I get the call…”Mrs. Moos this is the Doctor from the urgent care. We found a fracture after a second look.” I said “Ummm, so does that mean I shouldn’t have made him drag up the trash cans? Or what about the trampoline…should I ask him to get off?”. Haha! So we went in to an orthopedist and they offered him a cast or this brace. We opted for this so we could clean him up a bit better.
Take away: 1. Trust the preschool teachers they know their stuff. 2. Just because the boy wants his snack doesn’t mean his injury isn’t legit.
